Itinerary

Day 1 - Bagdogra / New Jalpaiguri – Darjeeling (93 kms )

Welcome on arrival at Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and transfer to Darjeeling. Standing high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2,134m, ‘Dorje Ling’, or “Place of the Thunderbolt,” offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountain peaks, with Kanchenjunga towering above all.

Often referred to as the “Queen of the Hills,” Darjeeling charms with its tiny waterfalls, quaint villages, and narrow-gauge railway track. Surrounded by world-famous tea gardens and majestic mountains, it remains one of the most exotic destinations in India. Graeme Westlake in his book ‘An Introduction to Hill Stations of India’ calls Darjeeling a place with “a view scarcely unrivalled on Earth.”

Day 2 - Darjeeling Sightseeing

Early morning, visit Tiger Hill to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayan range, including views of Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest. Experience the horizon changing colors just before sunrise, followed by the golden glow over the mountains.

After breakfast, enjoy a city tour visiting:

  • Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed on Thursdays) – started by Tenzing Norgay after climbing Everest
  • Zoological Park (closed on Thursdays)
  • Tenzing Rock & Gombu Rock
  • Tea Estate (from outside)
  • Japanese Temple & Peace Pagoda

Day 3 - Darjeeling to Gangtok (98 kms )

After breakfast, drive to Gangtok, en route visiting Teesta Village. At an altitude of 1,750m, Gangtok became the state capital in the mid-19th century and has grown rapidly since. The downtown area features huge government buildings adorned with traditional Buddhist symbols.

Gangtok is also a gateway for travelers heading to North Sikkim. Surrounded by monasteries and orchids, it offers a unique blend of nature, culture, and modernity.

Day 4 - Gangtok Sightseeing

Breakfast at the hotel, followed by a full-day sightseeing tour of Gangtok visiting:

  • Tashi View Point
  • Ganesh Tok & Hanuman Tok
  • Plant Conservatory
  • Handicraft Centre & Institute of Tibetology
  • Do Drul Chorten Stupa
  • Ropeway (on direct payment)
  • Bakthang Falls

Day 5 - Gangtok Excursion

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day excursion to Changu Lake (35 km from Gangtok, altitude 12,400 ft). The lake is fed by melting snow from the surrounding mountains. Legends say that lamas could predict the future by observing the color of the lake’s waters.

Visit New Baba Mandir on the way back.

Day 6 - Gangtok to Kalimpong (83 kms / approx. 3 hrs)

After breakfast, drive to Kalimpong. Situated at an altitude of 1,250m, Kalimpong offers a serene and relaxed getaway. Its favorable climate has made its orchids and gladiolus world-renowned.

Historically, Kalimpong was part of Sikkim until the early 1700s, later under Bhutanese control, and annexed to Darjeeling after the Anglo-Bhutan War in 1865. Scottish missionaries arrived in the late 1800s, and the town thrived as a wool trading center with Tibet until the 1950s.

Afternoon sightseeing includes:

  • Mangal Dham
  • Durpin Hill
  • Golf Course (from outside)
  • Cactus Nursery

Day 7 - kalimpong – Bagdogra / New Jalpaiguri

Morning Transfer to Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station
