Location: Kanha national park,Kisli/Mukki/Khatia, Madhya Pradesh
Destinations: 1D Raipur, 3D Kanha National Park
Begin your journey from Raipur towards Kanha National Park, a scenic drive that takes you through parts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. On the way, you can optionally stop at the historic Bhoramdeo Temple near Kawardha, often called the "Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh" for its intricate stone carvings. Continue through forested and hilly terrain, arriving at your chosen resort near one of the park gates—Kisli, Khatia, or Mukki. After checking in and unwinding, spend the rest of the day soaking in the serene forest atmosphere. Most resorts offer nature walks, tribal dance performances, or wildlife documentaries in the evening, providing a soft introduction to the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
Wake up early to embark on a morning safari into Kanha National Park, one of India’s best-managed and most scenic tiger reserves. The park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the rare barasingha (swamp deer), leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, and the elusive Bengal tiger. The sal and bamboo forests, open meadows, and watering holes make for stunning vistas and excellent wildlife sightings. After the safari, return to your resort for a leisurely breakfast and some rest. Later in the day, you can opt for another safari in a different zone of the park to increase your chances of spotting wildlife. The evening is perfect for relaxation or enjoying your resort’s amenities.
Use this day to explore beyond the core safari zones. You can take a guided safari in one of the buffer zones like Khapa or Khatia, which are less crowded and still offer good chances for wildlife encounters. Alternatively, choose to visit nearby tribal villages where you can interact with members of the Baiga or Gond communities, known for their traditional lifestyles, handicrafts, and deep connection with the forest. Many resorts can arrange nature trails or birdwatching walks led by local naturalists. Spend the evening unwinding, perhaps by the bonfire, and enjoy a meal featuring local flavors before turning in.
After a relaxed morning and breakfast, begin your drive back to Raipur. The return journey offers another chance to enjoy the changing landscapes, from dense forests to open plains. You may stop along the way for local snacks or quick sightseeing, depending on your interest. Once back in Raipur, you can wrap up your trip with a visit to a local market or a meal at one of the city’s popular restaurants, bringing a memorable close to your Kanha getaway.
